Lori distinguishes for its beauty and richness of nature. It carries latitudinal ranges of Lori-Pambak, famous Lori Gorge, and the lower reaches of Debed River (380 m above the sea level), along the right bank of which stretch a thick stripe of tall cypresses, dense bush of pomegranate, almond, fig, persimmon, well-disposed rows of laurel trees, and woody mountains with ancient monasteries sheltered them.
Steep and abrupt turns of the road spire above the abyss run upon hillsides along the turbulent Debed River, poetized in his poems by Armenian classic Hovhannes Tumanyan, who was born in the village of Dsegh, where his house-museum is situated. A city located near Dsegh is named after Tumanyan.
Vanadzor is the third most populated city in Armenia. In Soviet times, it was an industrial city of federal significance.
